After nearly three years of closure, Coles has returned to Lindfield as part of a large-scale development that aims to bring modern retail and housing options to the heart of the suburb.
The new supermarket officially reopened on Wednesday, 9 April, inside Balfour Place—a mixed-use precinct built on the site of the former Coles store. The $180-million project was delivered by Sydney-based developer Third.i Group and includes 59 apartments, retail and hospitality spaces, and a revamped Coles designed with local shoppers in mind.
A Fresh Start for a Familiar Space
The project brings Coles back to where it once stood, but with significant upgrades tailored to community needs. The supermarket features an open-style bakery, a gourmet deli, and an expanded grocery range, including Asian, Indian, and Kosher products. It also includes a Click & Collect drive-through service with more than 250 dedicated parking bays.
The store is managed by a newly appointed team led by Store Manager Izzy, who has expressed excitement about connecting with the Lindfield community. Coles has also stated that the reopening has created over 100 local jobs, strengthening its commitment to the area’s long-term growth.
A Development Designed for Lindfield
Balfour Place, named after the street it occupies, was designed by architecture firm Rothelowman and is being built by Conquest Property Group. The 59 apartments above the retail spaces were sold out prior to completion, signalling strong demand for new housing options in the suburb.
The development covers 4,500 square metres of retail and hospitality area and is positioned as a local hub that balances convenience and quality. While the residential portion of the site is nearing completion, the retail component has already become active, with Coles as the anchor tenant.
Local Focus with Broader Impact
The reopening of Coles and the nearing completion of Balfour Place are being seen as a step forward in revitalising Lindfield’s town centre. The combination of residential living, modern retail offerings, and community-focused planning reflects ongoing efforts to enhance liveability in Sydney’s upper North Shore.
Third.i has shared that the overall vision for the project was to create a place that caters to both residents and locals passing through, offering everyday services within walking distance. The development is expected to continue shaping the daily routines of Lindfield families, professionals, and seniors alike.
